Ink figure drawings

These are two recent drawings created from initial life drawings.  I drew these figures on prepared backgrounds using a twig dipped in ink. The twig gives a varied quality of the line which makes the work more fresh and interesting.  The background  is an abstract composition of ink on canvas. The flow of the ink and the merge of the three colours created spontaneous patterns. This element of unpredictability was my aim. The figures were drawn over this background so that they appear to bond with the "environment" and be engulfed by it.
You can view them on etsy.

Life drawing with ink

Today I have been reworking life drawings into colourful postcard size paintings. The aim was to show the contours of the female model in bold expressive colours. I used drawing ink and a twig (cut from a tree) to create the lines. A soft brush was also used for wide areas, blocking in the spaces.
